Call for Papers

Special Issue on : "Applied Monitoring"

Guest Editor : John Woods, University of Essex, United Kingdom

The field of sensor networks focuses on the delivery of information across diverse networks, but tends not to consider the data or its reason for being. This special call moves from the confines of the network and explores the data and the sensing methodology surrounding it. With the advent of ubiquitous and powerful microcontrollers the ability to assimilate large quantities of data is trivial and commonplace. Practical use and exploitation of this data remains less well defined and provides a motivation for this call. The scope of this call includes the acquisition, processing, relay, archiving and retrieval of data from monitoring applications. As such the call is wide ranging but the solutions have commonality: to make sense of large quantities of spatially and/or temporally related data.

The scope includes but is not confined to:

  • Biometric analysis
  • Energy management
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Sensor design and implementation
  • Analysis of sensor data
  • Pollution monitoring and tracking
  • Vehicular management systems
  • Scene analysis using imaging
  • Change detection
  • Healthcare
  • Home automation
  • Power consumption profiling
  • Airborne particular measurement
  • Dispersion modelling
  • Security
  • Surveillance
  • Transducers
  • Underwater applications
  • Stereoscopy
  • Spatial and temporal analysis
  • Data archiving/mining
  • Video analysis and Meta data representation
